The health sector of Kolkata has started embracing 5G technology. The integration of this advanced technology is enabling the treatment of patients under the direct supervision of a specialist doctor while being in an ambulance. Ambulances are being equipped with 5G technology, for this purpose.

Until recently, doctors had to rely on the skills of the ambulance staff to begin treatment of a patient in transit to the hospital. The healthcare workers and ambulance staff would monitor patients and communicate with the doctor. To see the patient in person, the doctor had to wait until the ambulance reached the hospital.

5G technology is helping to streamline this process. Doctors are now able to see the patient, right from the beginning. Apollo MultiSpeciality Hospitals Kolkata has adopted this state-of-the-art technology and has integrated it to develop 5G technology -equipped ambulances.

Explaining how this whole process works,

Dr. Arjit Bose, Senior Emergency Medicine Specialist and Head of the Emergency Department at Apollo MultiSpeciality Hospitals, has explained how this process works. He said, “I can now directly see the patient without relying solely on the words of the ambulance staff. I can not only see the patient, but also make instant decisions by checking their vitals, ECG recordings, and blood pressure.”

Talking about the incredible capabilities of 5G technology, Dr. Bose continued, “5G technology enables superfast video streaming. It feels like I am sitting right next to the patient, as I can see live images of every moment. The quality of the images is so clear that I feel like I am inside the ambulance. So, I don't have to rely solely on the aptitude of the ambulance staff to know what's happening inside the ambulance. I can monitor the patient's condition, whether it's improving or deteriorating, and whether their vitals are stable or not, all by myself. I can supervise the patient's treatment from this console.”

This is how, beautifully, 5G technology is poised to revolutionize healthcare.
