On the occasion of Mrinal Sen’s birth centenary, Friends Communication has released the teaser of Padatik, a film directed by Srijit Mukherji, based on filmmaker Mrinal Sen’s life. The film stars Chanchal Chowdhury, Monami Ghosh and Jeetu Kamal along with Korak Samanta. The one-minute and thirty-seven-second teaser gives a glimpse into the monochrome film. The black-and-white frames and the sepia tone in a few scenes give a yesteryear look and feel.
The song Tu zinda hai and the frames of Chowdhury depicting the role of Sen make a Mrinal Sen fan nostalgic, no doubt. Ghosh plays the role of Sen’s wife, Geeta Sen, in the film. Indraadip Dasgupta has scored the music of Padatik.
The title of the Mukherji-directorial is the same as Sen directed 1973 film — Padatik, which is believed to be the third film of the trilogy — after Interview and Calcutta 71. Sen’s Padatik starred Dhritiman Chatterjee, Simi Garewal, Jochon Dastidar, and Bijon Bhattacharya among others. You can watch the film here.
The release date of Mukherji-directed Padatik is yet to be announced.
