One of the major initiatives taken by Govt of India to solve the Societal problems as well as to integrate the technical learning with practical requirements and demands of the country is to organise Smart India Hackathon. This is the perfect platform where engineering students showcase their practical approach to tackle a problem, and develop a prototype for its remedy, and thereby a nature of problem solving is inculcated in their mind. RCC Institute of Information Technology, a premier engineering college in eastern India, was also integrated with the initiative a long ago, and to maintain the tradition along with fostering the innovation process, organised the Internal Hackathon for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2023 on 23rd September at Institute campus. A notable vigour and enthusiasm coupled with creative and intriguing mindsets from a group of sharpest brains set the campus atmosphere in a different tune.

The program started with the keynote talk from Prof. (Dr.) Debashis De, MAKAUT, W.B, entitled ‘Demystifying Hackathon: A Journey of Innovation’. From the mesmerising session, students gained knowledge about the initiative and selection process, and also the ways to tackle the problems by thinking out-of-the-box. Later the demonstration and presentation round started, where 75 teams consisting of 450 students exhibited their innovative ideas through soft and hard prototypes in front of esteemed jury members. The total selection process is divided in 10 panels with 2 jury members in each panel, and 7/8 teams were allocated in each panel. Best 30 solutions are selected for the final upload, where 5 next best results are kept in the waiting list.

It's really the day where knowledge is represented in the form of execution, blended with a few out of the box innovativeness, two-way interactions with juries, meaningful presentations constricting with physical limitations. The perfect way to implement NEP 2020 in the technical field, where all the contributions may truly help to get rid of present barriers we are still facing. The event was jointly organized by IIC RCCIIT, IQAC & SWC. This is the 2nd Hackathon organised by RCCIIT within one calendar year.
